Chapter 1
(Six months later)
Dre
“Shhhh, baby go to sleep.” I cooed to a fussy Ronneisha.
It had been hard raising her for the last six months alone, but with the help of everyone I was getting the hang of it. When she finally closed her eyes, I placed her in her crib and covered her body with the thick pink blankets that were covered in lime green and purple flowers. I stood back and looked at my daughter with a smile on my face before slowly walking out of her room.
Downstairs was filled with her toys, juice spills, and crackers that I immediately got to cleaning. As I was walking around the room picking up all of NeNe’s toys my eyes fell on a picture of me, her, and Lori. My heart cringed as I looked into the eyes of the woman who hurt me and abandoned her own daughter. Picking up the picture I sat back on the couch and thought back to the day Lori left.
Six months ago I came home to NeNe peacefully sleeping in her crib and a letter with Lori’s hand writing. As I read the words of the pages my heart broke. It was basically saying how this was too much for her and that she needed a break from everything. At first I thought this was a sick joke but when I called her and heard her speak those words to me I knew shit was real.
La’Tissa and Lori’s mom tried calling her to talk some sense into her but when a man answered the phone I lost it. He told me Lori was his bitch now and to move the fuck on. He even sent me pictures of them kissing, and a video of her sucking his dick as if it was made out of the sweetest candy known to man. Seeing all that shit crushed my soul, I gave Lori my all; I had her back when everybody wanted to write her off because she was grimy. Never in a million years did I think she would do me this wrong. I was stuck being a single father just because my bitch wanted to skip out on her responsibilities to be a thot. I would have preferred if she left me and stayed in NeNe’s life but to give up on a daughter she claimed was her everything showed me she wasn’t worth shit.
Once the house was cleaned up, I opened my Bob Marley treasure box that was filled with some fiyah ass herbs. After rolling me a fattie, I grabbed me a cup of brandy on ice and sat down to ease my mind. My baby’s first birthday was coming up and her mother wouldn’t be here to witness any of it. I had a big ass circus party planned for my princess in a few days and it was my duty to make sure she had the best day of her life. She may have had a hoe ass mama but her daddy would go through hell and back just to make sure she had everything.

“Da-da.” NeNe said as I dressed her up for daycare.
“Yes daddy baby.” I smiled dressing her down in her Burberry skirt with the matching top. She had on some stockings underneath with a pair of Burberry socks and sneakers on. I parted her hair down the middle and gave her two Mickey Mouse ponytails. Braiding down the tips, I snapped bows at each end then admired my handy work.
When it came to doing NeNe’s hair, YouTube was my best friend. I hated to bother the ladies so I decided to learn how to do it myself. I wasn’t a pro, but I could do some mean ass ponytails. I grabbed her Gucci book bag and her Hello Kitty blankets along with a few other things she would need for the day. Securing her in her car seat I played her favorite song “Whip and NaeNae”, the entire drive to the daycare.
“You always look so pretty.” Dawn, NeNe’s teacher cooed at her.
“Say that’s because daddy always have me on point.” I smiled.
“That you do.” she smirked.
Pulling out a big faced hundred and two twenty dollar bills I handed it to the lady out front that was taking the payments. When I looked up Dawn was still standing there looking at me all crazy. I knew she wanted this dick, but I wasn’t ready for all that yet. I knew how bitches were, they would swear up and down that they could fuck with you without falling in love and as soon as you gave their ass the dick they get to talking crazy. I was not about to go there with Dawn’s ass. She was a slim but thick pretty girl with smooth deep chocolate skin with a smile to die for. She was a good girl and deserved more than I could offer her. I was looking for a few jump offs to suck my dick here and there with no feelings attached. She deserved a real nigga that would give her everything I wanted to give Lori. Once I got my receipt, I hit Dawn with a head nod and made my way out of the daycare center.
“Dre wait!” Dawn called out running after me.
“What’s good?” I asked tuning around.
“You know in a few days NeNe is going to be advancing to Ms. Tutt class.” she said.
“Yeah I know.” I replied placing my hand above my eyes to block the sun.
“Well since I’m not going to be her teacher anymore I was wondering if I could take you out.” she said causing me to chuckle.
“Take me out?” I asked with a raised brow.
“Yes, out to eat or to the movies or something.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I replied.
“Why not?” she quizzed.
“For one, I’m not looking for a girl and I’m not that type of nigga that would let a girl take me out, if anything I’d take her out instead.” I replied.
“See you keep saying “Girl” but I’m a woman.” she snapped.
“Well ‘woman’ my daughter is in there waiting to learn her ABC’s so if you don’t mind I got a few corners to bend.” I replied.
“One day I’ll have you screaming my name.” she smirked.
“Yeah ok.” I laughed walking to my custom made money green Audi.
Future’s “Bye Bye”, blasted through my speakers as I made my way to the trap house. When I arrived the fellas were on the corner getting it, making a nigga proud. These younger niggas were hungrier than them old heads that is why I had no problem putting them down.
“What’s good boss man.” Rick, a seventeen-year-old hustla greeted me.
“Why you ain’t in school lil’ nigga you know the rules.” I frowned at him. I had no problems putting these young boys on, I understand the struggle when you had to depend on your moms that couldn’t afford to feed everybody. My only thing was school came first.
“I figured since today was early release day I didn’t have to go.” he shrugged.
“Nah you thought wrong young blood school come first.” I replied.
“Why Eric and them out here then?” he argued.
“Because Eric, Jaron, and Lil Nuk in college, they don’t have classes everyday but you do, so get your ass off the block and in the school house.” I snapped.
“Aight.” he nodded his head.
When I made it inside my trap house, I walked through the back door that
lead me to my office. Punching in my code, I entered the room and saw Khalil sitting at my desk on my computer. He had a serious look on his face as he read through whatever was on the screen.
“What’s good bruh?” I asked Khalil.
“Some shit ain’t adding up.” he sighed.
“What you mean?” I asked.
“Stack brought it to my attention that the numbers on the spreadsheets wasn’t adding up, so I’m looking though that shit now and whoever you got putting in them numbers playing foul.” he said angrily.
I’m usually in charge of putting in the numbers, but with me being a single parent now I hired my cousin BG who I trusted with my life. He was an accountant so I had no problem hiring him to put in the numbers. Johnathon would give him the sales report and it was his job to put in all the numbers.
“Nah man I don’t think BG rocking like that.” I said vouching for my cousin.
“Well you need to figure this out and do it quick. Shit gotta be accurate when fucking with them niggas Stack and Thug you know how the fuck they get down and to be honest I ain’t trying to cross them. We ain’t gon’ find another connect with that good work at a reasonable price.” he stressed.
“Yeah I feel you bruh, I’ma get to the bottom of this shit.” I assured him.
“Good. How you holding up bruh?” he asked referring to me becoming a single dad.
“I’m straight bruh you ask me this shit everyday, I’m gucci, fuck that hoe.” I spat.
“If you ever need some help just know you can always drop NeNe by the house, Liyah grown ass love that little girl.”
“I hear you. Good looking out bruh.” I nodded at him.
“That’s what family is for.” he replied getting out of my seat.
He grabbed a duffle bag and together we began going over inventory. No matter how busy both of us were we always made shit to do the inventory ourselves and together. After counting up the bricks and stacking the money in the duffle bags, I removed the flooring that gave us access to an underground storage room and we neatly stacked everything in the built in safe. Nobody knew about this room or had access to it except me and Khalil so if anybody was able to run up in here and take our shit it would have to be because one of us was on some foul play type shit.
When everything was done, I separated work between my guys and went to go holla at BG. I needed to know where the typos where coming from and most importantly I wanted to know if my cousin was bold enough to steal from me. We were short ten thousand dollars; although it was chump change to me and it was nothing for me to replace that shit, it was a big deal. In this game small sums of money disappearing ended up resulting in larger sums. Folks thought because we were eating at a larger table that we wouldn’t miss a few crumbs, but they were wrong.
“Yo’ Dre what’s good baby.” BG greeted me when he answered the door.
“This.” I said handing him the reports. “The numbers ain’t adding up and I feel like a fucking fool because Stacks and Thug had to bring this shit to our attention. This shit is mad unprofessional on my part cuz, what’s really good?” I asked.
“Let me take a look at that.” he nervously replied taking the papers from me.
“Why you so nervous BG? You stealing from a nigga?” I asked.
“No I just umm. I just-”
“You just what?” I angrily answered.
“I’m sorry Dre, you know my mom is going through chemo and that shit is getting hard on a nigga. I’m responsible for everything on her end plus I still got a family that I need to take care of.” he cried.
“Why couldn’t you have told me this shit man, I would have helped you out!” I yelled.
“I’m sick of having to depend on you for everything, you’re the reason I got this job. Do you know how less of a man I feel telling you that even though I’m getting paid thirty grand a month that I still need a hand out.”
“So instead of coming to me you decided to steal from me on some hoe shit?”
“I’m sorry bruh.” he cried. “If you came to kill me do what you gotta do man.” he said putting his hands up to surrender.
“Nah I ain’t gonna kill you, but I’mma handle all of Auntie Jane’s medical bills then I’ma give you your last check. I ain’t fucking with you no more.” I spat walking away.
I was so sick of motherfuckers crossing me. It was as if I couldn’t win for losing. Every time I would find it in my heart to help a motherfucker out they ass would end up crossing me in the end. Shit, look at what I was going through with Lori, I picked her up when she was down and gave her more than her bitch ass baby daddy could have and that hoe still dogged me out. My heart was becoming colder and colder by the day. If it didn’t concern my daughter then I just didn’t give a fuck.
It was close to one and I didn’t have anything left to do so I decided to get something to eat. Driving by a soul food restaurant I stopped and picked up some lunch for me and NeNe then went to her school to have lunch with her. I could feel Dawn’s ass staring me down as I sat on the outside benches feeding my daughter some collard greens. I paid that hoe no mind, in my head she was just another hoe just like Lori. When my baby girl finished eating I decided to take her home with me. I wasn’t feeling today at all so I was just going to sit in the house and kick it with the only girl I could trust my heart with.
Chapter 2
Tosha
I was nine months pregnant and due in two weeks. Today was my last day of work and I was happy to start my maternity leave. I could have sat home and not worked if I wanted to, but that would be more time that I would have on my hands to sit and cry over Gunz. My husband’s death was hitting me harder now because he was going to miss the birth of our daughter.
The final bell rang and I said goodbye to my kids. Khalil was able to have my charges cleaned up and I immediately landed a job at a middle school. I loved being a teacher but I hated working for folks, that is why when I recovered I was going to open my home school. With the help of Khalil and Dre everything was set in motion the only thing left for me to do was to have my baby and recover.
“Mrs. Lewis.” Nya, one of my students said grabbing my attention.
“Yes baby.” I replied.
“I have a few things for the baby.” she sweetly smiled.
On cue her mother walked in my class room with armloads of things. “Dammit.” I thought to myself. La’Tissa had thrown me a baby shower and Toshanna already had everything she needed and more. I had no idea where I was going to put all this stuff, but I was still grateful for it all.
“Thank you Nya and Mrs. Todd, you guys didn’t have to do all of this.” I replied.
“No, thank you.” Mrs. Todd replied. “Nya is now excelling in her studies all because of you and I am forever grateful for you. That is why I have also decided to enroll her into your home school program.” she said causing me to blush.
“I really do appreciate it, Nya is a pleasure to have in class and I look forward to continuing to work with her.” I replied pinching Nya’s plum cheeks.
“Make sure you call me so I can see the baby.” she smiled.
“I will.” I replied giving both her and her mother a hug.
Since Khalil hated for me to drive around pregnant he was outside waiting for me. Out of everyone he was the happiest that today was my last day of work. Every morning he would bring me to work he would have this mug on his face. He would always say, “You good on money, I don’t know why your big belly ass still feel the need to wake up and go to work.” I would simply just roll my eyes at him and go about my business. I knew how the game worked. Everything could be good now and then in a blink of an eye the Feds would be everywhere destroying shit. I knew Khalil and Dre were smart about how they ran things but I was sure to have a back up. I wanted to be able to have money saved up if that ever was to happen.
“Where are you going?” I asked Khalil.
“To my house.” he replied.
“Why?”
“You are abo
ut to go in labor, did you think I was going to let you stay home with a baby by yourself? Come on ma cut it out.” he snapped.
“I’m not a child you know.
“You sure do act hard headed like you are one.” he shot back.
“Shot fired.” I smirked.
“Nah ma I’m just saying you need to be taking better care of yourself. You knew if Gunz was here your ass would have been home with your feet propped up not running around some classroom like you ain’t about to bust any second.”
“Ok. Ok. I get it.” I waved him off.
But he didn’t stop there. Nah that wouldn’t be Khalil if he let me off the hook early. I heard his mouth until we got to his house and even when we got inside he was still going in on me. I sat on the couch with my feet up scrolling through my Kindle not paying him no mind.
“Why you in here fussing?” La’Tissa asked walking downstairs holding Gunz Jr.
“Your friend is hard headed as fuck.” Khalil snapped.
“Girl don’t pay this fool no mind, hand me my baby please.” I rolled my eyes at Khalil dramatic ass. I swore him and Gunz acted the exact same way.
“Hey mama fat man.” I smiled looking at Gunz’ twin.
Some days it would be hard for me to look at him, that’s just how much he resembled his father. I would be holding him one minute and breaking down into tears the next. Gunz’ death was still an open wound, but each day I was learning how to cope. I would still pray to God begging him to send my husband back but I knew that was only wishful thinking. Gunz was dead and the only time we would be together was in the next lifetime.
“Well since you’re going to be staying with us for a few months I already got the guest bedroom set up for you and my niecey pooh!” Tissa cooed.
“A few months? I’m only here until my six week checkup.” I replied.
