“Her hoe ass gonna get what she’s looking for fucking with him," I said rolling my eyes.

Sean’s baby mama was one of those bitches that fought any female who looked at him for too long. I wasn't really about that life so there wasn't much I could do to help her ass if it came to that point. I had a mouth on me, I could argue for days, but I could not stand in the paint, so I avoided drama at all cost.

"We ready to go. Get your ass off that dick and let's go," I said banging on Sean's door.

"Damn, can you have some respect for me? I do pay all the bills up in this bitch," Sean said coming to the door shirtless, with a blunt dangling from his mouth.

"Bitch fuck you. Natasha, hurry up before we leave your ass," I said snatching the blunt out of his mouth and taking a puff.

"I'm ready, damn," Natasha said walking to the door dressed in a high-waist checkered skirt with the matching crop top.

I made a mental note to ask her to borrow it.

"You spending the night with me?" Sean asked wrapping his hands around her waist.

"Yes," Natasha blushed as he began kissing her on the neck.

"Eww man, come on, damn!" I impatiently snapped.

"Hater," Natasha said rolling her eyes.

I started to say some shit back to her about her bouncing on the next bitch man's dick, but I kept my mouth closed.

"Don't be having no niggas all in yo face," Sean said smacking Natasha on the ass.

"This is all yours daddy," Natasha said lifting up her skirt and exposing her cream colored thong.

"We picking up Diamond right?" Cray asked turning the music down.

"Oops, I forgot all about that hoe," I laughed, passing Natasha the blunt. "Yeah, go get her ass. Let me text her to let her know we on our way."

When we pulled up in front of Diamond's house she was standing on the porch wearing some cargos, a blue and pink Jordan shirt with the matching Jordans on her feet. Her long hair was pulled back in a ponytail, looking like a fucking tomboy and shit.

"That hoe ain't going nowhere with me like that," Natasha scoffed.

"Tash be nice to the damn girl, I swear you hoes be too fake!" Cray snapped, honking the horn.

"Whatever, but I ain't finna be walking around that hoe. I don't need people to think I'm some kind of lesbian and shit."

  "Girl bye," Cray said.

"What's up?" Diamond said climbing in the car smelling like strawberries.

"Hey girl, you look cute," I lied causing Natasha to laugh. Diamond rolled her eyes and we headed to the block party in silence.

When we got to the block party it was on smash. Knight brought the whole East Side out. Everybody from different hoods came out to show love. Them fine ass Haitian niggas was posted on their cars smoking that good Kush. Once upon a time them Haitian boys used to run the block back when Gustave was in charge. When Gustave got murdered and his son Zoe was deported back to Haiti, Bobby's uncle, Biggs stepped in and took over. Even though Biggs was supposed to only run the West Side, he took over the East because no one took over.

Now the only thing them Haitian boys was pushing was that good weed. If you wanted that good shit that'll keep you higher than a motherfucker, then you'd go to them. I loved Bobby and all, but the shit he was pushing was whack as fuck. The only reason they were still in the game is because they had that grade-A coke and pills.

I wasn't really book smart but I was street smart. I educated myself on everything that needed to be known in the drug game. Diamond was really good at what she did so I would listen to her ramble on and mentally take notes. I was putting together my life plan and I needed to l know what nigga was really getting it and who was pretending. I was on a mission. I had to bag me a rich baller so I could be set for life.

I spotted Diamond standing next to Bobby, Tommy, and Fred so I strutted over there.

"Diamond, you riding home with us, right?" I asked giving a full view of my ass.

"Duh, I got here with y'all, right?" she replied rolling her eyes.

I wanted to smack her dumb ass, but decided against it. I done saw Diamond fight niggas and I ain't want those type of problems.

"You can ride home with me; I ain't done with your ass," Tommy said blowing my cover. There was no way in hell Bobby was gonna fuck with me now.

"Tommy you play so much," I laughed trying to play it off.

"Who’s playing? This ain't you right here?" he said pressing play on a video he had of me sucking his dick.

Bobby and Fred laughed making me feel so embarrassed. I could feel the tears well up in my eyes as I tried my best to blink them back. Diamond saw the look in my eyes and I could see the vein in her neck swell.

  WHAM! WHAM!

"You a bitch ass nigga," she said hitting Tommy with a two piece. "Why would you do that hoe ass shit?" she said getting ready to throw some more punches but was stopped by Bobby.

I was happy that somebody popped Tommy in that big ass mouth of his.

"Imma fuck your ass up," Tommy said holding his bloody lip.

"Try it pussy ass nigga, you don't pump fear in my heart," Diamond yelled out.

"Yo, take her home," Bobby said to me causing me to smile.

"You want to come get her from my house?"

"Nah, take her home like I said." He walked off.

I walked over to Cray and borrowed her keys so that I could drop her off home. I was so fucking mad at Tommy’s bitch ass. I just hoped that he ain't fucked up my chances of of getting with Bobby.

  Chapter 4

  Diamond

When we got to my street I could see ambulance and cops everywhere. My heart started pounding as we neared my house and I realized that the commotion was at my front door. I jumped out of the still moving car and ran to my front door to see what was going on.

"Ma'am you cannot go in there," an officer said stopping me.

"This is my house! What's going on?"

"Captain Pete, she lives here," the officer replied to another cop that was standing off to the side.

The cop came over to my chewing on a pen. He spit on the ground and cleared his throat before he spoke.

"Who are you to the residents of this house?"

"I'm their daughter. Can you please tell me what's going on?" I asked out of patience.

"Oh God Diamond, he's gone," my mother cried running into my arms.

We fell to the ground because my mom was so heavy. I wrapped my arms around her and rocked back and forth. I silently cried, as my heart shattered. Even though I didn't have the best parents in the world, I still loved them.

When the coroner came to pick up my father's body, that's when reality hit me; he was gone. They wheeled his body in a black bag to the back of the coroner's van and my mother lost it. She started wailing and begging God to bring him back to her. I felt so bad for her, but there wasn't anything I can do.

"We need someone to come with us to sign off on the body," one of the medics said.

  "I'll go," I replied.

  "How old are you?"

  "Fifteen."

  "We need an adult."

"You see my mother is in bad shape, so why the fuck would you want her to go do that shit?" I snapped.

"It's fine, she can go," Captain Pete said, signaling for me to follow him to his car.

The ride to the hospital was a silent one. I stared out the window the entire drive. When we got to the hospital, Captain Pete walked me to the medical examiner's office and stood by the door.

The room was ice cold as I slowly made my way inside. My father's lifeless body was laying there on a slab, as a lady stood over him cutting through his body while speaking into a voice recorder.

"Hello, you must be here to sign the paperwork?"

"Yes," I choked up as the tears poured down my face.

"Here you go," she said handing me a box of tissues and a clipboard. "You can sit over there," she said, pointing to a small desk that was in the corner.

I sat down and began reading the pa
perwork. I was always told to read documents before you sign them. I got to the portion where it stated cause of death and was mortified when I read that he died of a drug overdose. I couldn't believe that my father would let this monkey that was on his back, claim his life.

What was I going to tell Kay? I thought as I began to fill in the empty fields. I suddenly begun to hate my father for the poor choices he decided to make. Instead of finding a new job, he resorted to a drug that took him away from his wife and kids. How could someone be so damn selfish?

After filling out the paperwork, I left the clipboard on the desk and walked out of the room.

"Would you like to say your final goodbye?" the medical examiner asked.

"No, his drug addicted ass can burn in hell for all I care," I replied storming away with Captain Pete on my tail.

"Are you going to be okay?" he asked.

  "Yes. Just take me home."

When he dropped me off home, I could see Bobby across the street leaned up against his car. He watched the officer drop me off then leave before jogging over to me. He passed me a pre-rolled blunt, and a lighter and we just chilled on my porch and smoked.

He didn't bombard me with questions and that's what I loved about him. I wasn't really ready to talk about what happened; I just wanted it all to be a dream. I wanted to wake up in my zebra print sheets and hear my mother bitching and my father prancing around the house like a crazed person.

After my second joint, my high took over my body and I became emotional. I did something that I never did in front of people and that was cry. Bobby’s strong arms wrapped around my body as his scent invaded my nostrils. My body began to relax and my tears ceased. I was not in the arms of the man that I loved. Just by being in his arms my problems seemed to dissolve, until we heard a loud BOOM.

"What the fuck was that?" he asked jumping up and pulling out his gun.

"I think that came from my house," I said frantically fumbling with my keys. "Mama?" I asked once I finally got the door open.

The house was quiet and dark as I walked around in search of my mother. I knew she had to be home because her car was parked out front. I made it to her room and there was no sign of her. Something told me to walk inside Kay's room and I did. Kay's room was dark and empty. Feeling for the switch, I turned on the light and let out a piercing cry.

"What? OH SHIT!" Bobby said as we watched my mother's lifeless body sprawled out on the ground.

My mother’s brains stained the pink glitter paint that was in Kay's room. Her fingers were still wrapped around the gun that she used to take her life away with. I fell into Bobby’s arms and cried. My body shook as the painful cries left my mouth. How could they do this to us? Why would they both leave us here all alone? were the questions that danced through my head as I tried to make sense of the situation.

"I'm about to clear it down the block. Call them boys and tell them what happened. Then call me when they come and I'll come get you."

  "Okay," I whispered.

  "Diamond?"

  "Yes."

"I'm here for you, ma. We gon’ get through this together."

  "Thank you."

I waited until he was gone, then pulled out my phone and dialed 9-1-1. I told the operator my emergency and slid down to the floor with my back against the wall. I was sitting directly in front of her. The fact that I was in the room with a dead body didn't scare me. Being in the game I've seen my fair share of dead bodies.

I was disgusted with this sorry excuse of a woman who was rotting in front of me. How could you take your life behind a man knowing you had kids to look after? All I could think about is the State coming in and trying to separate me from Kay, and my blood began to boil. I wanted to so badly raise my mother from the dead just so I could shoot her dumbass again.

When the paramedics arrived to my house, they escorted me out of the house so that I could speak with the cops. The same Captain Pete was there, but he just stood off to the side. After giving my statement they asked me if I wanted to come down to the hospital but I declined. At this point I didn't give a damn; they could burn their bodies for all I care.

The only difference with this visit was that the cops were accompanied by Department of Children and Families. The prissy black lady dressed in her expensive designer suit, was taking notes as she spoke with Captain Pete. Once everyone was gone she walked up to me and began to speak.

"Hello. I'm Mia and I'll be your social worker. Where is Kay?" she asked balancing her binders on her hips.

  "She's over a friend’s for a sleepover," I mumbled.

"Okay, do you want to go with me over there?"

"With all due respect, it is almost three in the morning and Kay is asleep. Is it okay if we do this at a reasonable hour? We just lost our parents."

"Okay. Jot down the address and I'll come by in the morning."

I grabbed the pen from the lady's hand and wrote down the address to an abandoned building that was three blocks from my school. There was no way in hell that I was going to allow this prissy bitch to separate me and my sister. I had a lot of money saved up, all I had to do was ask Bobby to get me an apartment in his name and raise Kay on my own.

I waited for Ms. Prissy to drive away before I called Bobby. While waiting for Bobby to come pick me up, I packed up all of our things and grabbed my money. I thumbed through just to make sure everything was there. Satisfied, I wrapped it in a pair of Jordan socks and stuffed it deep down in my duffle bag.

"You can crash at the crib, but you know ma dukes gon’ be on some other shit,” Bobby said helping me put my things in his trunk.

"I know. I figured you can cop me a spot under your name for me and Kay."

"Diamond, I don't think them boys gon’ let that fly. You know children services is going to be on a man hunt for you."

  "I know, B, but I can't let them separate us," I whimpered.

  "Damn," he huffed.

When we arrived to his house, his mother was sitting on the couch waiting for us. She got up and held me in her arms and started praying for me. Once she was done, she led me to Bria's room where Kay was sleeping peacefully. I climbed into Bria's twin bed and wrapped my arms around my baby sister.

"DeeDee, did you decide to come to the slumber party too?" she asked still half asleep.

"Yes," I replied trying to hold back the tears.

"You missed it. Ms. Jessie painted our toes pink."

  "She did?"

  "Yes."

"Okay. Go to sleep Kay, we can talk more in the morning."

  "Okay DeeDee, I love you."

  "Love you more Kay."

Before I could fully close my eyes I was rudely awakened by banging on the door.

I could hear the front door open and Ms. Jessie arguing with someone. I heard the familiar female voice threaten to call the police. The room door then swung open and Ms. Jessie stood there apologizing. Behind her stood Ms. Prissy and that is when I realized my life was about to change for the worse.

"You have thirty minutes to get ready. I've already wasted my whole morning searching for you thanks to the bogus address you gave me," Ms. Prissy said with a French manicured hand propped on her hip.

"I left your ass at the door; don't be coming in here disturbing these babies!" Ms. Jessie snapped.

"Please refrain from using any foul language while speaking with me," Ms. Prissy said. "Thirty minutes," she said tapping on her gold watch.

"Listen to me. I am going to try my hardest to get custody of you and Kay," Ms. Jessie said while closing the room door.

"I can't be separated from Kay," I said with tears forming in my eyes.

"I know. I'm going to try my best to prevent that from happening. Go get yourself together, cuz if this bitch walk up in my house on more time it's gon’ be big problems."

I dragged myself into the bathroom and took a hot shower so that I could wake up. I hated my parents so much for what they were putting us through. It wasn't fair at all; I didn't even get the
chance to explain all of this to Kay. Defeated, I got out of the shower, dried myself off, and got dressed.

When I walked into the living room, Kay was already dressed and watching cartoons. I quickly wiped my tears away so that she wouldn't see them, before taking a seat next to her.

"Kay, we have to go somewhere with that nice lady."

"Where are we going?" she asked with a confused look on her face.
